My name is Natalia Kalianova, though many in the art world know me as Kalina.
Painting is my way of speaking when words are too fragile. I create paintings because, for me, art is a way to express inner experience through visual form. My practice includes landscapes, portraits, and figurative painting, and in each, I seek a balance between observation and personal sensation.
On the canvas, I work with color, light, and form to create rhythm and atmosphere. In landscapes, space and air are essential; in portraits, character and emotional depth; and in figurative paintings, movement and the plasticity of the body.
I work mostly with oil on canvas, where vibrant color and bold silhouettes meet softness and intimacy. My style has roots in post-Impressionism, fauvism and pop-art - traditions that I transform into my own language.
Today I divide my time between New York and Moscow, carrying two worlds inside my practice. I have shown my work at CUBE Moscow, during RedDot Miami Art Week, and in galleries and museums in United States and Russia.
My paintings live now in private collections across countries.
I am a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, among the members of this union were such artists as Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko and many other famous artists.
