About Natalia Kalianova (Kalina)

My name is Natalia Kalianova, though many know my work under the name Kalina.
I am a New York-based contemporary artist working primarily in oil on canvas. At the center of my practice are color, space, and the emotional tension between simplicity and expression.
Some of my paintings are reduced to a horizon, a solitary form, or a few carefully balanced fields of color. Others are built through movement, layered brushwork, and more complex compositions. Across these different approaches, I am interested in the same question: how little is needed for a painting to create a feeling, a memory, or a sense of presence?
Color is central to my work. I use it not simply to describe what I see, but to create depth, rhythm, atmosphere, and emotion. My visual language draws from post-Impressionism and Fauvism while remaining rooted in a contemporary approach to painting.
Born and educated in Russia, I am now based in New York. My work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Miami, New Jersey, and Moscow, including Red Dot Miami during Miami Art Week, CUBE.MOSCOW, and the MoRA Museum of International Art.
My paintings are held in private collections in the United States and internationally.
